China pipeline blast due to negligence: report
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- A senior Chinese official said Friday's oil pipeline explosion that killed 55 people in the eastern city of Qingdao stemmed from a "very serious dereliction of duty," the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Monday. The director of the State Administration of Work Safety cited an unreasonable oil-pipeline layout, negligent pipeline supervision, and "unprofessional handling of oil leakage before the blasts," according to the report. The pipeline in question was owned by China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or Sinopec, , shares of which were 2.7% lower in late Hong Kong trade.
