NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Chrysler Group LLC reported a 12% increase in U.S. vehicle sales in August to 165,552 units, from 148,472 units a year earlier. The car company said Wednesday the sales were its best August result since 2007. Total car sales rose 11% to 45,391 units and total truck sales rose 12% to 120,161 units. Ram Truck brand sales gained 29% to 33,587 units in August, marking the biggest percentage gain of all Chrysler brands in August. Chrysler's Jeep Grand Cherokee sales jumped 40% in August to 17,976 units, while the overall Jeep brand sales rose 8% to 46,239 units.
