Hoyer Statement on Rosh Hashanah WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on Rosh Hashanah, which begins today at sundown: “I join in extending my wishes for a sweet and happy New Year to all who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah. This holiday, marking the arrival of the year 5774 on the Hebrew calendar, is a reminder of the long and storied history of the Jewish people and the enduring spirit of renewal that has brought comfort and hope following difficult periods. I also join in recognizing the many contributions of Jewish Americans who have made a lasting impact in government, academia, business, sports, the arts, and in military service. “This week, Jewish members of our Armed Services will observe Rosh Hashanah at their duty stations in combat areas and on bases throughout the world, and my thoughts are for their safety and that of their fellow service-members. I also continue to pray for the security and peace of Israel, which will mark the arrival of another New Year faced with great challenges but enormous opportunity. As families in America, Israel, and throughout the world this evening come together in celebration, I wish them a Shana Tovah that is both joyful and sweet.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
