U.S. State Department closes 22 embassies Sunday
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Twenty two U.S. embassies were closed Sunday, according to the U.S. State Department website, amid escalating concerns about terror attacks in the Middle East and North Africa. The Canadian embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was closed on Sunday "as a security precaution," according to The Wall Street Journal, citing a government spokesman. The U.S. embassy in Dhaka was also closed Sunday. The State Department on Friday issued a travel alert for August due to a threat of terrorist activity, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, based in information about possible attacks by al-Qaida and affiliates.
