They discussed first ladies from Martha Washington to Michelle Obama, conflicting views of politically powerful first ladies, and the impact of the 19th Amendment on their public work. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Lesley Stahl moderated. Cokie Roberts the author of [Ladies of Liberty]. Akhil Reed Amar is the author of [America's Constitution: A Biography]. "Women and the White House" was part of the New York Historical Society Bernard and Irene Schwartz Distinguished Speakers Series and part of the series "Celebrating the 19th Amendment: Ninety Years."
