FTSE 100 atop 6,000 for first time since July 2011 from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.K.'s FTSE 100 index jumped above the 6,000 level for the first time since July 2011 on Wednesday, as a much awaited budget deal in the U.S. spurred a risk-on mode. The index rallied 1.9% to 6,011.20. Banks and mining firms posted some of the biggest gains in the London benchmark, with shares of Rio Tinto PLC up 5.7% and heavyweight bank HSBC Holdings PLC [s:hbc] adding 2.5%. Elsewhere in Europe, France's CAC 40 index picked up 2.1% to 3,716.28, while Germany's DAX 30 index rose 2% to 7,767.03. The pan-European Stoxx 600 index jumped 1.7% to 284.51
