“Don’t let the Republicans get away with this” from Obama 2012 Blog Republicans in the Ohio state senate are continuing their efforts to severely limit voting rights in the state, despite overwhelming opposition from Ohioans who organized against earlier efforts last fall. On the OFA Ohio blog, State Director Greg Schultz explains: “In 2011, Republicans unilaterally passed House Bill 194 (HB 194)—a law that would have severely restricted early voting in Ohio. With your help, we fought back, and collected well over 300,000 signatures to put HB 194 on the ballot this November for a citizen’s referendum to be voted on by the people of Ohio. But Republicans haven’t gotten the message. On Wednesday, they passed Senate Bill 295 (SB 295). While Ohio’s Republican state senators framed Tuesday’s vote on SB 295 as a “repeal” of HB 194, they’re still trying to eliminate the last three days of early voting in Ohio—the weekend before the election. And with no justifiable reason.” This fight will continue in the Ohio legislature, but organizers on the ground will be making sure that voters in Ohio know what they need to vote in November.
