Chevron loses Ecuador appeal, legal fight still onfrom MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Chevron Corp. said late Tuesday it received an "adverse ruling" on an environmental case in Ecuador, but it plans to continue its legal fight outside of the South American country. Plaintiffs in the case said an appellate court upheld an earlier judgement against Chevron and that the oil company has been ordered to pay $18 billion. "Our next step will be enforcement-related," said Karen Hinton, a spokeswoman for the plaintiffs. Chevron said it, "does not believe that the Ecuador ruling is enforceable in any court that observes the rule of law."
