CNN Special Report: State Funeral of Ronald Reagan
Live from Washington
Tuesday, June 8, 2004
From the Wolf Blitzer Reports staff:
After more than 100,000 mourners paid their respects at an extended two-day public viewing and emotional departure ceremony in California, President Ronald Reagan is making his final journey to Washington today for the State Funeral ceremonies to be held there over the next several days.
Washington has been feverishly preparing for the upcoming historical events, the likes of which have not been witnessed in over a generation. We'll have extensive live coverage of the late president and his family's arrival in Washington, the formal procession carrying Reagan's flag-draped casket through the streets of Washington to the U.S. Capitol and the State Funeral ceremonies in the Capitol Rotunda, including remarks by Vice President Dick Cheney, a 21 gun salute and fighter jet flyover. Following this evening's memorial, Reagan's body will lay in state in the Rotunda until Friday's State Funeral at National Cathedral.
More than 200,000 mourners -- Americans from across the country and world leaders and dignitaries alike -- are expected to gather in the capital to honor the life and legacy of the 40th president before Reagan's body is flown back to California for a sunset burial at the Ronald Reagan presidential library in Simi Valley, California, on Friday.
Please join Wolf Blitzer and Paula Zahn from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET today for our CNN Special Report: State Funeral of Ronald Reagan. Wolf Blitzer's regular programs resume tomorrow at noon and 5 p.m. ET.
