Democratic Party Unifies Around Ken Salazar
On Wednesday March 10th Attorney General Ken Salazar announced his candidacy for Colorado's Second Senate Seat. If elected, Salazar would be the first Hispanic to represent Colorado in Congress and the nation's first Hispanic senator in 27 years. As a show of the Democratic Unity that's sweeping the nation, the other Democratic contenders quickly coalesced around him and withdrew from the race leaving the Attorney General without a primary challenge.
Ken Salazar has worked as a farmer, small business owner, natural resources lawyer, and has served in the Governor's cabinet. In 1998 he was elected as Attorney General and is currently serving his second term as the State's top ranking Democrat. During his tenure as Attorney General, Salazar has led efforts in Colorado to reduce youth and family violence through preventive programs and aggressive prosecution, combat fraud against the elderly by developing AARP ElderWatch and toughening penalties, and protect Colorado's environment by creating an environmental crimes unit.
Surrounded by a crowd of supporters at his announcementn Salazar declared, "Today, I want to help the people of Colorado and our country achieve the same American dream that I have been able to live."
