Democrats Celebrate the Life of Cesar E. Chavez
On March 31, Democrats join Americans across the country in celebrating the life and legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, an American hero and defender of working families. On the 77th anniversary of his birth, his principles of social justice, civil rights and service to others live on.
"The impact of the life and work of Cesar E. Chavez transcends any one cause or struggle and continues to influence and inspire millions of Americans," said Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe.
"Chavez was a true American hero, a civil rights and labor leader whose life-long organizing efforts brought dignity, respect, fair wages, medical coverage, pension benefits and humane living conditions to thousands of farm workers," said DNC Vice Chair and AFL-CIO Executive Vice Chair Linda Chavez-Thompson. But the plight of working families is not over, and the Democratic Party will continue the struggle that Chavez began in his efforts to help America's workers."
