Dow drifts 100 points higher at the open as investors prep for midterm elections, Fed policy update
U.S. stocks on Monday were tilting higher as investors braced for a week that including key elections in Washington and the latest policy outlook by the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was trading 110 points, or 0.4%, at 25,368, the S&P 500 index climbed 0.4% to 2,733, while the Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 0.2% at 7,341. Shares of Lowe's Cos. were closely watched after the home-improvement company announced store closures. Looking ahead, the Fed is slated to issue an update to policy on Thursday, while on Tuesday midterm elections will kick off.
