Hoyer Statement on President Trump's First 200 Days
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on President Donald Trump's first 200 days in office:
“Since taking office 200 days ago, President Trump has failed to deliver on his promises to the American people. Instead, he has been mired in controversy and his Administration has been defined by chaos and incompetence.
“The President promised to create jobs, but has failed to put forward a single jobs or infrastructure bill. Meanwhile, economic growth is lacking and American jobs are being shipped overseas. He promised to pass a bill that would provide ‘insurance for everybody,’ but under TrumpCare, millions of Americans would lose access to health coverage and see costs skyrocket. He promised to be a dealmaker for the American people, but has not made any progress on tax reform or renegotiating a trade agreement.
“President Trump – along with Congressional Republicans – has failed to meet even the most basic responsibilities of governing. Republicans continue to be deeply divided over issues like health care and are wasting time rolling back protections while ignoring fiscal challenges that we face when we return in September. Rather than pursue this partisan path, I urge President Trump to change course and work with Democrats to ensure access to affordable, quality health care, responsibly fund the government, and pay our nation’s bills. That’s what the American people expect and deserve, and Democrats stand ready to meet those responsibilities.”
