Hoyer Statement on June Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for June:
"With the Labor Department's report today that only 187,000 private sector jobs were added last month, the slowest June in four years, it is clear that our focus ought to be on ensuring that the momentum inherited from the Obama Administration isn't squandered. Unfortunately, the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have instead dedicated their legislative agenda to pushing a health care plan that would kick millions of Americans off of their health care coverage and increase costs for millions more. That is completely the wrong approach as we learn the economy has now failed to produce 200,000 private sector jobs for the fourth consecutive month on President Trump's watch, the longest such drought since 2012.
"So far the President has failed to deliver on any of his promises to create jobs, grow the economy, and help workers get ahead. Instead of partisan efforts to take opportunities away from American workers, President Trump and his Republican allies in Congress ought to work with Democrats to reach bipartisan consensus and enact policies that help our workers and their families Make It In America."
