Hoyer Statement on Latest Result of Republican Health Care Uncertainty
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on reports that Anthem plans to leave health insurance marketplaces in Ohio:
“The decision by Anthem to withdraw from the health insurance marketplace in Ohio is yet another example of uncertainty created by Republicans driving insurers from the market. Senate Republicans have acknowledged that the House’s TrumpCare bill is going nowhere. Senator Burr said that he thinks ‘it’s unlikely that we’ll get a health care deal,’ and Leader McConnell admitted that he doesn’t ‘know how to get to fifty at the moment.’
"In fact, Anthem warned the Trump Administration earlier this year that if it did not provide long-term certainty on cost-sharing reduction payments, it would ‘consider adjusting its rates, changing its product offerings, or exiting certain markets entirely.’ The Administration and its allies in Congress failed to heed that clear warning.
"Instead of holding insurers and consumers in limbo, Republicans ought to end this TrumpCare charade and work with Democrats to restore stability to the system and ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health insurance coverage.”
