Hoyer Statement on Republican Destabilization of Our Nation's Health Care System
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after reports that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City plans to leave health insurance markets in parts of Kansas and Missouri:
“I am very disappointed that Republicans’ willful sabotage of our nation’s health care system has led Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City to stop offering insurance plans across parts of Kansas and Missouri. Republican leaders should be ashamed of their actions that have sowed uncertainty and deterred insurers from remaining in the marketplaces and offering plans at competitive prices.
"House Republicans’ pursuit of TrumpCare and the Administration’s refusal to enforce the law and to commit to making cost-sharing reduction payments over the long term leave many insurers with no rational choice but to exit the marketplaces and raise premiums. With Republicans controlling both Congress and the executive branch, the American people will hold them accountable for changes to our health care system that limit their coverage options and lead to higher out-of-pocket costs.”
