Hoyer Remarks at Rally to Oppose TrumpCare
"LET US NOT BACK UP A SINGLE INCH"
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) delivered the following remarks earlier today at a rally outside of the Capitol in opposition to TrumpCare:
“I am Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, and I don’t write the songs but I count the votes. And every Democrat today in the House of Representatives, an hour from now or when that vote occurs, is going to be a no vote to undermine coverage.
“We are winning. We are winning because of all of you. Forty-two percent of Americans thought the Affordable Care Act in December was something that they didn’t have a favorable view of. Twenty-five percent more Americans today – now 55% – because they looked at the bill, they looked at what they were getting, and they looked at what the Republicans wanted to take away, and they are saying ‘no way!’
“We are in this together, and we want every one of our fellow Americans – those who live with us and are next to us, in front of us, behind us – we want them healthy. That’s why we want health care for everybody in this country, and we are winning.
“Forty-two to 55. And 75% of Americans according to Kaiser, want to see us fix the Affordable Care Act, make it better, make it more accessible, make it more affordable, not less so. Their bill does all of the opposite of what the American people want.
“Jimmy Kimmel had it right. Jimmy Kimmel was confronted with the reality of what the Affordable Care Act meant for his little boy.
“That’s why Americans, 42% to 55% - and it’s moving up - are saying we need this bill, we need this protection, we need this security for our families, our children, our neighbors, and friends.
“It is American. And God blesses America. But God blesses America through our actions - and we need to take actions which bless Americans in that Chamber today - and with your voice, and your signs, your hands, and your heart.
“Ola was with me when we did a rally, she gave an extraordinary speech at our health care rally in Bowie, remember that Ola? So let us stand together. Let us not back up a single inch. And we will be heard, and America will respond, and we will turn that chamber blue. God bless you, keep fighting.”
