Hoyer: We Must Have a Full Accounting of Russia’s Efforts to Subvert Our Democracy
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to block two resolutions of inquiry regarding President Trump's connections to Russia from coming to the House Floor for a vote:
“Today, House Judiciary Committee Republicans blocked resolutions of inquiry from coming to the Floor that would have shed light on connections between President Trump, his advisors, and Russia's efforts to undermine our election. The resolution offered by Reps. Jeffries and Lieu would have required the Administration to provide Congress with information on contacts between the Trump campaign and Administration personnel and Russian officials, and the resolution offered by Rep. Quigley asked for any information from the Administration on President Trump’s wiretapping claim.
“We must have a full accounting of Russia's efforts to subvert our democracy, and it is shameful that House Republicans are shielding President Trump and his associates from having to respond to legitimate questions to which the American people deserve answers. This further underscores the need for a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate Russian meddling in our election.”
