Hoyer Statement on Report Indicating Substantial Job Losses as a Result of Repealing the Affordable Care Act
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight after a new study was released by the Commonwealth Fund and Milken Institute School of Public Health detailing the economic and employment consequences of repealing the Affordable Care Act:
“This new report ought to be alarming to all Americans. If Republicans succeed in their partisan-driven attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement, it would cost our country almost 3 million jobs by 2021 – most of them in the private sector. Every state would suffer job losses, and the health care sector would not be the only one affected. This new report, from the nonpartisan Commonwealth Fund and Milken Institute School of Public Health, also shows an economic impact of more than a quarter trillion dollars in lost gross state product across the fifty states in the year 2019. These numbers ought to give serious pause to Republican Members from across the country as they think about how their constituents will be harmed. House Democrats will continue to defend against repeal of the Affordable Care Act.”
