Hoyer Joins Bicameral Amicus Brief to U.S. Supreme Court on Special Education Services WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after joining a bicameral amicus brief in Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District, which is before the Supreme Court. “When Congress first passed the legislation that would become known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and in subsequent reauthorizations, the intent of lawmakers was clear: that students with disabilities deserve a meaningful and material education benefit, not just a bare minimum of effort from school districts. As a lead House sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act, I have been proud to stand up for people with disabilities throughout my time in public service, and I will continue to do so as long as anyone with a disability is denied the full and equal measure of opportunity to live up to his or her full potential. That’s why I’m proud to sign on to this amicus brief.” The full text of the amicus brief filed today can be found here. democrats-edworkforce.house.gov/imo/media/doc/2016-11-21%20Amicus%20Brief%20118%20Members%20of%20Congress.pdf
