Hoyer Statement on the Attack in Nice
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight in response to the attack in Nice, France:
"The attack in Nice this evening was deeply heartbreaking. To the families who lost loved ones I offer my condolences, and to those who were injured I send my prayers. Those who perpetrated, organized, and inspired this attack must - and will surely - face justice.
"Those who died tonight had gathered to celebrate the 227th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, launching a revolution that freed a nation and inspired the world. Now, as free people face together the challenge of an onslaught of violence, we must draw strength from the principles espoused by France's revolutionary forebears and our own. Together, we must show the world that freedom is unmoved by fear, that justice and human rights will always prevail. We in America stand in solidarity with the people of France - and will continue to do so until the forces of terror and inhumanity are defeated."
