Hoyer Statement on GOP’s Decision to Not Invite OMB Director to Present President Obama’s Budget
Hoyer: Decision Is “Outrageous and Unprecedented”
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after yesterday’s announcement that Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan will not be invited to present President Obama’s budget to the House and Senate Budget Committees:
"Yesterday’s joint announcement by the Republican Chairmen on the House and Senate Budget Committees that the Director of the Office of Management and Budget would not be invited to present the President’s FY2017 Budget is both outrageous and unprecedented. Never before in modern Congressional history have we seen the Majority declare that it would refuse to extend to the President’s top budget representative the courtesy of a hearing about hisrequested priorities before the Budget Committee. The statement released by Chairman Price and Chairman Enzi was disrespectful both to the President and to Director Donovan, and its condescending tone calls into question Republicans' seriousness about fulfilling their promise to complete a budget process that we know will require compromise and consultation with this same Administration."
