Hoyer Statement on Enactment of Highway Bill, Export-Import Bank Reauthorization
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama signed into law the bipartisan highway bill, which includes a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank:
“Today, President Obama signed into law the bipartisan highway bill that includes a four-year reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank. Since the Republican leadership in Congress allowed the Bank’s charter authority to lapse in July, America’s export businesses and their workers have been at a disadvantage against overseas competitors. The legislation signed into law today will end uncertainty for these businesses and help spur the creation of good jobs here at home.
“I was proud to work with business and labor to build a bipartisan coalition to reopen the Bank. I want to thank Ranking Member Maxine Waters, Ranking Member Gwen Moore, and Rep. Denny Heck for their untiring efforts to achieve this victory for American businesses and workers – as well as Republican Reps. Stephen Fincher and Frank Lucas for their work to garner support from a majority of their Republican colleagues on the House Floor. With the enactment of this Export-Import Bank reauthorization and the highway bill of which it was a part, we are demonstrating to the American people that bipartisan solutions are still possible and that when Democrats and Republicans work together, we can achieve real results that make a difference for our economy and help create jobs.”
