Hoyer Statement on LCCR President Wade Henderson Stepping Down Next Year
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the announcement that Wade Henderson, President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, will step down at the end of 2016:
“I join in thanking Wade Henderson for his service to the cause of civil rights in America and human rights around the world as President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. When he leaves the organization next year, he will cap two decades at the helm of our nation’s leading coalition on civil and human rights, during which time he oversaw important initiatives to expand membership, engage with policymakers on a range of civil rights issues, and bring a new generation of leaders into the movement.
“Wade has been a strong advocate for voting rights and efforts to make our elections more open and accountable, and I remain grateful of all his help during the drafting and consideration of the Help America Vote Act in 2002 as well as the critical role he has played pushing for Congress to pass legislation to address the Supreme Court’s misguided ruling in Shelby v. Holder in 2013. I have appreciated Wade’s friendship throughout the years, and while he continues to serve, I look forward to continuing to work closely with him and his team in the push for policies that promote equality, tolerance, and justice and to make sure Congress is an effective partner in the Leadership Conference’s critical work both here at home and around the world.”
