Hoyer Statement on Chairman Chaffetz's Comments on Planned Parenthood WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz's comments on Planned Parenthood: “Yesterday’s comment by Chairman Chaffetz of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that there is no evidence that Planned Parenthood broke any laws provides yet another reason why Congress should not create a select committee to investigate that organization, which three House standing committees are already examining closely without finding any wrongdoing. Doing so would be a waste of taxpayer money and Congress’s time, much in the same way that time and money have been squandered by the Select Committee on Benghazi, which Majority Leader McCarthy intimated on Tuesday was created for the express purpose of providing a forum for partisan political attacks. A committee to investigate Planned Parenthood would undoubtedly serve the same purpose: a one-sided investigation not to seek evidence of illegal activity – which the Chairman has said he does not believe exists – but to make noise during an election year and drum up fervor among Republicans’ right-wing supporters. The American people deserve better from their Congress.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov for more press, floor and member resources
