Hoyer Statement on July Jobs Report WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for July: “Today’s jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics marks the sixty-fifth consecutive month of private sector job growth. Having added 210,000 jobs in July, our economy continues to make significant gains in its recovery from the worst recession in decades. While we continue to see jobs being created, the Republican-led Congress is placing this progress at risk by exacerbating uncertainty through manufactured crises and by failing to support policies that increase our economic competitiveness and help ensure every American who seeks work – and the opportunity it brings – can find it. “It is deeply unfortunate that the House adjourned without taking action on long-term reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank or the Highway Trust Fund, both of which support thousands of jobs and make our economy stronger. I hope that the Congress will take up legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank and the Highway Trust Fund over multiple years when it returns to session in September – and that Democrats and Republicans can work together in a bipartisan way to replace the sequester, fund the government for FY2016, and avoid an unnecessary and economically dangerous shutdown."
