Hoyer Statement on OMB’s Mid-Session Review WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the Office of Management and Budget issued its Mid-Session Review today: “I was pleased to see that today’s Mid-Session Review by the Office of Management and Budget predicts a deficit for 2015 $128 billion lower than anticipated by the President’s budget. This reflects an economy performing better than expected and strengthened by the recovery policies Democrats and the President put into place at the height of the Great Recession. Federal budget deficits as a share of GDP have now been reduced by more than two-thirds since President Obama took office – a level of deficit reduction unseen in more than half a century. “Republicans’ strategy to disinvest in our economic competitiveness for the future while adding billions to the deficit through unpaid-for tax cuts is the wrong approach and ought to be abandoned. Instead, Democrats and Republicans have a responsibility to work together to invest in growing our economy and creating opportunities in a fiscally sustainable way.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov for more press, floor and member resources.
