Hoyer Statement on President Obama Signing the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act Into Law WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama signed H.R. 1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, into law: "I am pleased that the President signed this legislation today. It passed with strong bipartisan support and reflects Congress's important role in reviewing any final nuclear agreement with Iran. We have yet to see the details of what such an agreement would entail, and I continue to believe that no deal would be better than a bad one. "A good deal would eliminate any pathway to a nuclear weapon, provide for what Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken called ‘the strongest, most intrusive inspection and access program’ in history, and allow for sanctions to snap back into place if Iran does not live up to its end of the agreement. Sanctions relief must depend on Iran's compliance, and any agreement needs to deal with possible military dimensions to its nuclear program. "I will continue to work to ensure that Iran cannot develop a nuclear weapons capability that could threaten our country or its allies, including Israel."
