Hoyer Statement on Election of Congresswoman Roybal-Allard as Ranking Member of Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight on the election of Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard as Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee: “I join in congratulating my friend Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard on her appointment as Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, making her the first Latina to be the senior-most Democrat on any appropriations subcommittee. It is very meaningful that Rep. Roybal-Allard is following in the footsteps of her father, the late Rep. Edward Roybal, who served as a House Appropriations Subcommittee chairman, continuing her family’s tradition of distinguished service in Congress. “Rep. Roybal-Allard, who wrote the DREAM Act, brings with her great experience and insight into our immigration policies, which will enhance the work of the Subcommittee as it oversees funding for programs that enforce those policies. I have no doubt that she will continue to provide strong leadership in advocating comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together, secures our borders, and promotes a pathway to citizenship for those who want to contribute to growing our economy. I look forward to working closely with her as she assumes this important new role.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
