Senator Durbin on Surgeon General Nominee

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) spoke in support of the nomination of Vivek Murthy to be surgeon general. He said Republicans opposed Dr. Murthy because of political opinions he had expressed on such issues as about gun control. Senator Durbin noted that C. Everett Coop was an outspoken opponent of abortion who went on to be a well-respected surgeon general.
