Hoyer Statement on One-Year Anniversary of Senate Passage of Employment Non-Discrimination Act WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today marking the one-year anniversary of the Senate passage of the bipartisan Employment Non-Discrimination Act on November 7, 2013: “One year ago today, the United States Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act by a strong bipartisan vote of 64-32. This historic legislation would ban discrimination against LGBT Americans in the workplace or in hiring. It is very disappointing that the House has not been given an opportunity to vote on this bill and send it to the President’s desk. Combating discrimination and intolerance is not a partisan issue – it is among our highest values as a nation. Nobody should be denied a job, a promotion, or fair pay because of who one loves or one’s gender identity. I join in calling on Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader McCarthy to bring the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to the Floor when Congress returns to session so that the House can pass it and the President can sign it into law.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
