Hoyer: HHS Announcement on Medicare Premiums Shows Affordable Care Act Is Working WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Department of Health and Human Services announcement that seniors will not see an increase in Medicare Part B premiums or deductibles in 2015: “Today's news that there will be no increase in the Medicare Part B premium or deductible shows that the Affordable Care Act is working to dramatically slow the growth of health care costs. This is the second year that the deductible has not increased, and it is the first time in Medicare’s history that the Part B premium has stayed the same for three years in a row, meaning that seniors are seeing significant savings from health reform. These savings are a sharp contrast to the steep increase – from $50 per month to $96 per month – that occurred during the Bush Administration. “Seniors are experiencing other benefits from the Affordable Care Act, including saving more than $12 billion on prescription drugs, and having access to free preventive care. Democrats will continue to defend the Affordable Care Act from Republican attempts to repeal it, so that seniors continue to have the health security they need and deserve.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
