WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Federal regulators voted unanimously on Tuesday to end federal enforcement of the so-called blackout rule that prevents some pro sports games such as NFL football from being broadcast locally if a game is not sold out. The Federal Communications Commission voted 5-0 to drop a rule first adopted in the mid-1970s. The NFL can continue to black out games on its own, though it could face additional legal challenges if it does so.
