WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Economic activity accelerated in July, according to the national activity index from the Chicago Fed. The index rose to 0.39 from 0.21 in July, and the three-month average rose to 0.25 from 0.16 in June. Readings above zero indicate above-trend growth. The index is a weighted average of 85 different economic indicators.
