WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Private-sector hiring picked up in June, as employers added 281,000 jobs, Automatic Data Processing Inc. reported Wednesday. Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had expected a June gain of 210,000 private-sector jobs, compared with 179,000 added jobs in May. Economists use ADP's data to get a feeling for the U.S. Labor Department's employment report, which will be released Thursday and covers government jobs in addition to the private sector. Economists polled by MarketWatch expect the government's report to show that nonfarm employment rose by 215,000 jobs in June, compared with a May gain of 217,000 jobs.
