Hoyer Statement on Obama's Announcement of New Actions to Revitalize American Manufacturing
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama announced new actions to spur innovation and revitalize American manufacturing:
“When American businesses and entrepreneurs innovate and make products here, the products that emerge change the world. President Obama’s actions today to help them do so are an important step in our effort to maintain and expand our country’s manufacturing leadership. By using his executive authority to allow innovators to access over 700 federal research and development facilities, expand investment in the Materials Genome Initiative, and encourage local communities to support manufacturing entrepreneurship, President Obama is continuing to help spur manufacturing growth in the absence of real leadership on this issue by Republicans in Congress.
“I have been proud to lead the bipartisan Make It In America plan to strengthen American manufacturing and create jobs. This plan includes legislative measures that would build upon today’s executive actions in order to help innovators and entrepreneurs develop new products and commercialize them successfully. Unfortunately, House Republican leaders have failed to allow Make It In America bills to come to the Floor for votes, in spite of the plan’s bipartisan nature and strong support from business, labor, economists, and the public. I hope the Speaker will work with Democrats to allow consideration of bills under our plan this summer so we can expand on the actions President Obama has taken today and help more of our innovators do what they do best: Make It In America.”
