Hoyer: Bipartisan Legislation Ensures Quality, Equity, Transparency in the Federal Charter School Program WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on HR.10, the Success and Opportunity Through Quality Charter Schools Act: “I was proud to vote for H.R. 10, the Success and Opportunity Through Quality Charter Schools Act, which passed the House today with a bipartisan vote of 360-45. This legislation ensures quality, equity, and transparency in the federal Charter School Program. By strengthening community support and promoting equity for students with disabilities, English language learners, and others who have traditionally been underserved, students and their parents will have greater access to a high-quality public education. Strong, accountable charter schools continue to play a valuable part in our efforts to expand opportunity through elementary and secondary education, making sure that all of our high school graduates are college or career ready. “I am glad that Democrats and Republicans were able to come together today to pass this bill. It is disappointing that House Republicans did not approach reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in the same bipartisan spirit last year. I hope we can find a way to work together in a bipartisan fashion to complete full reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in the weeks ahead.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
