GM April U.S. car sales up 7%
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Motors Co. said Thursday its total U.S. car and light truck sales were up 7% in April to 254,076 from a year ago. Analysts expected car sales to increase by 4.7%, according to Edmunds.com. Sales for GM's Buick were up 12% to 19,214 units, the best April since 2006. Cadillac sales were down 5% to 13,900 units. Chevrolet sales were up 5% to 181,648 units. GMC sales up 13% to 39,314 units, the brand's best April since 2007. "Retail demand was steady in April, and truck sales and transaction prices were especially strong," said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. "As we expected, the economy continues to strengthen. Shares were up more than 2% in early trading.
