Hoyer Statement on April Manufacturing Report
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for April:
“Once again, the Institute for Supply Management’s monthly report shows that our manufacturing sector is growing at a strong pace, continuing to demonstrate resilience even in the face of uncertainty caused by gridlock in Congress. American manufacturers want to make more of their products here and sell them around the country and across the world – and, in the process, invest in new facilities, new hiring, and innovation. However, with millions of Americans still seeking work, Congress must do more to help our manufacturing sector expand and create high-skill, high-wage jobs at a faster rate.
“Restoring certainty to our private sector will require a serious effort by Congress to make progress on two fronts: investing in economic competitiveness through Make It In America legislation and promoting fiscal sustainability. The Make It In America plan consists of four key components that have broad bipartisan support: adopting a national manufacturing strategy, promoting U.S. exports, encouraging the return of jobs and innovation from overseas, and training a twenty-first century workforce. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move Make It In America bills to the Floor and to push for balanced and responsible deficit reduction, both of which will help American manufacturers create the private sector jobs that provide workers with opportunities to secure a place in a strong, growing middle class.”
