Hoyer Statement on Senate Republican Vote to Block the Paycheck Fairness Act WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after every Senate Republican voted to block consideration of the Paycheck Fairness Act: "I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans voted today to prevent equal pay legislation from reaching the Floor. In the United States in the twenty-first century, there is no reason why women should earn less than a man for the same job. Equal pay isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s a family issue. Women's incomes support millions of families, making homeownership, higher education, entrepreneurship, and other middle class opportunities possible. "I urge Senate Republicans to reconsider their opposition to equal pay legislation, and I hope Democrats and Republicans in the House can find common ground on this issue in order to move forward the Paycheck Fairness Act - which I have cosponsored - in this chamber."
