U.S. stocks open higher; Dow jumps over 100 points to 16,433.93 NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - The U.S. stock market began trading Monday - the last day of the month and quarter - on an upbeat note. However, the main indexes are on track to finish the quarter roughly where they started. The Nasdaq Composite has been the worst performer so far this month, with steep losses last week erasing gains year-to-date. Stocks on Monday were boosted by hopes of monetary stimulus from the European Central Bank after euro-zone inflation fell to its lowest level since 2009. Investors are waiting for Chicago PMI data as well as a speech from Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen after the market open. The S&P 500 opened 13 points, or 0.7% higher at 1,870.37. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 112 points, or 0.7%, to 16,433.93 at the open. The Nasdaq Composite began the day up 40 points, or 0.9%, at 4,194.11.
