Republicans Ignore Critical Legislation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
I am disappointed that House Republicans continued their obsession with repealing or undermining the Affordable Care Act this week. Instead of taking action on critical issues facing our country, including creating jobs, renewing emergency unemployment insurance, raising the minimum wage, or passing comprehensive immigration reform, Republicans voted for the 50th time to undermine or repeal the Affordable Care Act, which is already providing health care benefits to millions of Americans. Instead of focusing on removing these important protections, Republicans should work with Democrats to strengthen the law to ensure that it works for everyone.
On Thursday, I joined with my colleagues in the House to pass legislation to make Ukraine eligible for U.S. loan guarantees. This bipartisan legislation will be instrumental in stabilizing the country’s economy and is an important step to show Ukraine's people that the United States stand with them. The actions taken by Russia are unacceptable, and I support the Obama Administration’s efforts to broker a diplomatic process to reach a resolution.
This weekend, I am proud to be joining Congressman John Lewis for the 14th annual Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage recognizing the anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery March for voting rights. The anniversary of Bloody Sunday serves as a reminder that the march for equality continues, which is why I’m working with my colleagues in the House to pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act into law.
Sincerely yours,
STENY H. HOYER
