Hoyer Statement on President Obama's Executive Actions on Patent Reform WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on President Obama's executive actions announced today to further the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s work to strengthen our patent system and help foster innovation: “I welcome the executive actions taken today by President Obama to make it easier for businesses and entrepreneurs to innovate in our country. Under House Democrats’ Make It In America plan for jobs and competitiveness, one of our central components is to encourage businesses to innovate here in America. Our nation has always been the world’s innovation leader, thanks in large part to our robust intellectual property protections. In order to maintain our innovation edge, we must continue to take actions, like ones announced today, to modernize our systems to make them more efficient and effective in the digital age. “As long as innovation continues to make good business sense, companies will keep pushing the boundaries of technology – and create new skilled jobs that pay well in the process. I hope Democrats and Republicans in Congress can work together, as we did with the Innovation Act in the House last year, to continue making our patent system stronger and one that helps more of our businesses invent it, design it, and make it in America.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
