Hoyer Statement on Preview of President Obama's Budget
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the preview of President Obama's budget for fiscal year 2015:
“Our budgets reflect our nation’s priorities, and the budget President Obama plans to submit to Congress next month for Fiscal Year 2015 will once again demonstrate his administration’s commitment to increasing opportunities, promoting job growth, and protecting our national security. By focusing on these areas, his budget makes it clear that America’s priorities will continue to be keeping our people safe and helping them make it in America.
“House Democrats will continue to work with the President and with our Senate colleagues to put forward an agenda that aims to strengthen and grow our middle class. We will continue to reach out to Republicans in order to achieve compromise on deficit reduction that can provide certainty to the private sector and encourage job growth. At the same time, we will promote budget savings that do not come at the expense of the most vulnerable in our society. Enacting policies that improve our economy while helping stabilize our debt over the long term, like comprehensive immigration reform, can allow us to invest further in a stronger economy.
“I urge Republicans in both chambers to look closely at the President’s new budget proposals and work with Democrats to achieve results for the American people. If we are successful in doing so, we can lay the groundwork together for the kind of job growth and economic competitiveness that will sustain a thriving middle class for many years to come.”
