Hoyer Statement on House Passage of Farm Bill WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 2642, the farm bill conference report: “This is not a perfect bill, and I am disappointed that it cuts food assistance that is critical for millions of Americans who are at risk of hunger. However, the compromise on nutrition is far better than the draconian bill House Republicans had championed. Overall, this legislation is a positive step forward that invests in rural development, bio-based energy, conservation, and agricultural research and that will provide certainty and stability for families in need, for farming communities, and for our commodity markets. I urge the President to sign this bill without delay, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Democratic Caucus to continue the push for greater funding to combat hunger in America and expand opportunities for those seeking to enter the middle class.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
