Hoyer Statement on Republican Bill Attacking Women's Health Care WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House considered H.R. 7, a Republican bill that would undermine women's access to health care: “Today’s vote was yet another waste of time and one more example of House Republicans’ obsession with undermining women’s access to quality, affordable health care. Republicans have consistently voted to take away women’s health care choices and make it more difficult for them to access a full range of health care options. Their efforts come at the expense of focusing on critical issues like job creation and strengthening our economy, which are needed to help women across America gain access to the economic opportunities that our country has always stood for. “Over and over again, we’ve seen this Republican majority pursue a partisan agenda that is detrimental to America’s women, including opposition to equal pay for equal work, votes to repeal provisions of health reform that keep insurance companies from charging women higher premiums than men, and a refusal to extend emergency unemployment insurance to hundreds of thousands of women who are looking for work. I urge Republicans to instead work with Democrats to expand opportunities for all Americans – women and men alike – to secure a place in a growing middle class.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
