Hoyer Statement on the Office of Management and Budget's Deficit Report for Fiscal Year 2013 WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Treasury Department released their Year End Statement for Fiscal Year 2013: "Today's announcement by the Office of Management and Budget that the federal deficit for Fiscal Year 2013 has been significantly lowered continues a trend since President Obama took office. Since the height of the recession, our deficits have been cut in half, thanks to slowing health spending, a recovering economy, and a series of bipartisan agreements to achieve budget savings. "We are making progress as a nation toward getting our fiscal house back in order, but there is still much to do to secure a strong fiscal future for our country. This includes focusing on job creation and pursuing a sensible, balanced approach to deficit reduction that can replace the irrational sequester and provide certainty to businesses, markets, and working families. I hope Democrats and Republicans can work together to bridge our differences and achieve the kind of balanced and bipartisan budget agreement our nation deserves."
