New Free "Scaling Up Microfinance" Webinars Available
The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) today announced that five free webinars will be provided this fall as a continuation of the Capacity Building Initiative’s “Scaling Up Microfinance” series. The technical assistance webinars, provided by Opportunity Finance Network, will provide microfinance Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) with best practices and tools they can use to analyze their own business practices and determine appropriate strategies to scale their operations.
The webinars will run from the end of October through November. Topics for the webinars were selected as the result of feedback from participants in mentored working groups held earlier this year as part of the training series.
The five webinars are:
•New Product Development (Thursday, October 24, 2013, 1 p.m. ET): This webinar will share a framework for new product development for organizations to consider when designing new financial services. Participants will hear best practices around product ideation, securing stakeholder buy-in, partnering considerations, and ongoing evaluation of products.
•Underwriting to Scale (Friday, November 1, 2013, 2013, 1 p.m. ET): A robust risk management approach is essential for organizations that want to sustain growth. So what does that look like and what are some of the potential pitfalls? This webinar will offer insights for organizations that want to build an underwriting approach on a firm risk management foundation that takes into account issues of scale, efficiency, technology and team. The presenters will offer key points about how to balance growth and risk within your microenterprise lending program.
•Customer Acquisition - Reaching and Retaining Your Customers (Friday, November 8, 2013, 1 p.m. ET): New market challenges, increased competition, demand for diversified products, more selective customers--today’s reality makes it more imperative than ever to reach and retain the customers your organization needs to grow. Learn how to identify and reach your most important customers using marketing tactics that work.
•Loan Fund and Credit Union Collaborations (Monday, November 11, 2013, 1 p.m. ET): Individually, loan funds and credit unions create enormous impact, however when they collaborate together it creates the opportunity to reach more disadvantaged people and communities. On this webinar, hear case studies from existing loan fund and credit union collaborations and learn about partnering strategies for success.
•The Role of Market Research in Scaling Microfinance (Thursday, November 21, 2013, 1 p.m. ET): Reaching more entrepreneurs with the products and services they need to start, grow, and hire begins with understanding market opportunities. Learn how to access and deploy tools and resources to define and size target markets, assess needs, and generate customer insights.

The “Scaling Up Microfinance” webinars are free and open to the general public, but advance registration is required to access the presentation. Registration may be completed up until the start time listed for each individual session. Registration is available on the CDFI Fund’s website.
