Dow jumps to session highs--up about 370 points--as Trump weighs joining TPP
The Dow Jones Industrial Average Thursday afternoon added to its sharp gains amid news that President Donald Trump was considering rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Dow was up about 370 points, or 1.5%, at 24,551, the S&P 500 index gained 1.1% at 2,670, while the Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 1.2% to 7,155 in late-Thursday action. Stocks saw a slight lift as Sen. Ben Sasse said Trump directed U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow to consider renegotiating entry into TPP, the trade deal Trump withdrew from on his first day of office. "That's really good news for America," said the Nebraska Republican. Trump said it might be easier to come to an agreement now that 11 other nations have signed on, according to Sasse.
