Hoyer Statement on Bipartisan Deal to Reauthorize CHIP in the Senate
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Senate Finance Committee announced a bipartisan agreement to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP):
“I’m pleased to see that the Senate came to an agreement on a long-term reauthorization of CHIP, which enables low-income families to access affordable health care coverage for their children. It is critical that we provide certainty to these families that they will not lose continuity of coverage because of preventable Congressional inaction. Now it is up to Republicans to work with Democrats on identifying reasonable offsets and extenders so that we can turn this deal into bipartisan legislation that can pass the House and Senate and be signed by the President.”
